The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of Engineering.

UTEP is located in El Paso, a binational area with a vibrant blend of cultures. With a southwest climate, El Paso offers year-round outdoor activities. UTEP was founded in 1914 as the Texas School of Mines and Metallurgy, and has grown into a dynamic urban university that serves almost 24,000 students enrolled in 72 baccalaureate, 74 master’s, and 22 doctoral programs. UTEP takes pride in enabling students from modest backgrounds to set and attain the highest educational and life aspirations.

UTEP’s College of Engineering has widely expanded its research program, with total research expenditures in excess of $34 million, driven by 86 tenured/tenure-track faculty and 21 research/clinical faculty. The College is proud to be a recognized leader in engineering education and has attained high rankings by ASEE. The College offers eight undergraduate, 14 Master’s and six Ph.D. programs, in addition to 17 graduate certificates. Enrollment is currently at 4,098 students: 3,442 undergraduate, 411 master’s, and 245 doctoral.

The Dean is the chief academic officer and administrative leader of the College, and serves as a key member of the University leadership team. Working collaboratively with faculty and staff to advance the College’s mission, the Dean will represent the College within the University and among a wide range of external constituencies. The Dean will promote UTEP’s nationally recognized access and excellence mission, strengthen existing research and scholarship, and build on current interdisciplinary efforts. The Dean will be responsible for development strategies in support of the goals of the College, with external partners as well as alumni and other donors.

Applicants should have qualifications commensurate with appointment as a tenured full professor in the College and demonstrated excellence in leadership and management while effectively supporting diversity and inclusiveness. Additionally, the applicant should have an aptitude for development and innovative approaches to solving complex organizational challenges.
