Overview:
The Business Development Engineer (BDE) has an external focus whose key objective relates to new business pursuit and capture opportunities for non-OEM, aftermarket opportunities, with a focus on Aftermarket growth.
The BDE has a broad range of knowledge combined with in-depth expertise on a specific technology (hydraulics, mechanical or electronics), enabling the incumbent to discuss the application of a wide range of technologies, products and potentially systems. The BDE will demonstrate a passion for the aftermarket customer and the market, having the ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the market place for the designated product line.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Business Unit Managers to identify technical points of contact at customer and identify markets and opportunities for new Sustaining Engineering programs.
- Development of working relationships with customer’s technical staff involved in non-OEM R&O, product upgrades, obsolescence management and reverse engineering decisions and program execution.
- Working an effective Business Pursuit process, including but not limited to:
- Opportunity planning
- Opportunity identification and pursuit
- Gated process review
- Technical liaison with the customer
- Business Case supporting Bid/No bid decision
- Pre-RFP Planning
- Serve as technical lead for proposal efforts:
- Proposal content
- Support estimates of recurring and non-recurring costs.
- Statement of Work
- Key program milestones
- Function as program technical lead after contract award and up to the point of production transition:
- Lead product development efforts
- Support Test Equipment Development
- Approve A&T processes / documentation
- Assist Supply Chain with Parts Sourcing decisiopns
- Maintain a status on Competitors products, services, technology and strategy related to the aftermarket customer
- Participate in the management and resolution of major issues affecting the relationship with the customer.
- Co-ordinate with Group Engineering management to forecast and assign resources in the support of new business opportunities. Forecast resource requirements to support the future needs of the product line.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- US national with ability to work on classified programs.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in the field of engineering/operations/business development.
- Proven leadership capabilities and ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the market place for the designated product line.
- Customer focus and proven ability to interface with customer’s technical procurement and program staff.
- Excellent technical/engineering knowledge with depth in mechanical controls or electronics.
- Strong human relationship skills are required in developing effective working relationships both externally and internally.
- The position requires travel, up to 50% of time over any given month.
