Summary:

Utah Valley University is searching for a Teaching Lab Manager for Horticulture in the Biology Department. Teaches 15 contact hours per year. Participates in development of horticulture program(s). Organizes and maintains greenhouse and related facilities and equipment for horticulture and botany courses. Orders, procures, and prepares supplies, materials, and solutions for horticulture courses. Identifies, selects, and makes hiring recommendations for adjunct laboratory instructors and student assistants. Trains and supervises laboratory personnel. Teaches laboratory and field courses in area(s) of expertise as assigned by Chair.

Required Qualifications:

M.Sc. or higher degree in Botany, Horticulture, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution or a related combination of education and experience totaling six years. Must have or obtain current Pesticide Applicators License.

A valid Utah Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of botanical/horticultural protocols, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of safety standards for horticulture work and the use of laboratory equipment, facilities, and supplies.
  • Knowledge of safe and appropriate application of pesticides in greenhouse and horticulture garden.
  • Knowledge of receiving and storage procedures for horticulture materials and supplies.
  • Skill in providing guidance and instruction in horticulture protocols, the safe use of horticulture equipment, and safe conduct of horticulture studies.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to communicate information in a manner easily understood by students.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or hazard control standards.

Pay Range:

$43,811 - $58,414
