The staff accountant will play a key role in refining inventory related accounting processes, internal controls and reporting in this growing company. The staff accountant leads through influence to ensure meaningful and timely financial, managerial and cost reporting for the company. This person will support the month-end process and prepare analysis as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares entries and analysis as a part of the month-end process with particular attention to inventory costs and manufacturing reporting; ensuring the information flows and tasks are completed by predetermined deadlines.
  • Reviews recurring operational data from the mining and washing processes; records inventory volume and cost entries to the accounting system with a high level of accuracy.
  • Compiles support data and calculations for standard costs. Reconciles standard to actual costs and prepares variance analysis with comments.
  • Assists in the production of the monthly financial reporting packages for the mining operations, wash facility and drying facility.
  • Recommends, documents and implements process improvements as appropriate. Specifically ensures that balance sheet reconciliations are performed regularly and appropriate entries are made.
  • Evaluates unusual transactions or process deviations. Makes recommendations and implements actions such that financial and managerial data is timely and meaningful.
  • Reviews typical statutory notices (local, regional tax) and completes the documentation required or determines what resource is needed to complete the request.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-year Associates degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years of related experience; exposure to internal financial reporting a plus.
  • Progress toward an accounting certification considered a plus.
  • Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook.
