Summary

Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law seeks an Associate Dean for Information Services and Assistant, Associate or Professor of Law. The Associate Dean must be a member of the law school faculty and possess the qualifications required for a tenured or tenure-track appointment. The Associate Dean is responsible for overseeing all aspects of library operation including administration of strategic planning, hiring, supervision of library staff, collection development, budgeting and implementing technology to support library services. These duties include allocation of resources devoted to the library, oversight of the use of the physical space devoted to the library, and responsibility for internal and external communications regarding the library and its collection.

Essential Functions

Anticipate and deliver appropriate library services by:

  • Working closely with the law school Dean, members of the senior administrative staff and the law school library staff.
  • Developing, implementing and managing the library budget.
  • Identifying, obtaining and arranging, and maintaining appropriate information resources.
  • Exploring and implementing new technologies.

Oversee appropriate library services including:

  • Maintaining appropriate library user tools, including the catalog and internal web pages.
  • Maintaining photocopier/printer/scanning capabilities audio-visual equipment capabilities.

Manage library staff by:

  • Directly supervising, delegating and providing supervision, guidance, support, and training as necessary.
  • Recommending appropriate staffing levels.

As a faculty member:

  • Teaches classes.
  • Mentors students.
  • Actively participating in faculty governance and information gathering efforts.

Qualifications

  • JD and MLS required
  • Three - five years of experience required in academic law libraries at Associate Directors level and above
  • Sound analytical skills providing development, implementation, and appropriate advisement
  • Ability to promote progress and growth; goal setting
  • Exceptional knowledge of traditional and online services
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with the law library staff, faculty, students administrators, University personnel, alumni and friends.
  • Excellent legal research skills, ability to direct the development of appropriate and electronic resources such as OCLC, Millennium, and MARC records
  • Demonstrated ability to ,manage and supervise.
