Position Summary:
This recruitment will be used to fill two full-time (summer term only) field technicians positions for the Department of Forest Ecosyst & Society at Oregon State University (OSU). The position will become part-time and be limited to 20 hours per week once Fall term start.
This position will assist with field data collection as part of a study on forest fire refugia in the Pacific Northwest led by the Landscape Fire and Conservation Science Research Group at OSU. This position represents an excellent opportunity to gain experience in forest ecology, fire ecology, and forest mensuration.
Students will be involved in data collection.
We are particularly seeking individuals with expertise in forest inventory and plant identification, ideally in post-fire environments in Oregon, Washington, and Northern California.
This position is well-suited for those who enjoy working outside in forested mountainous terrain.

Position Duties:
Percentages of duties may vary slightly based on the abilities of each technician, but in general, tasks for the team will include:
50% – Vegetation and woody fuels data collection. 10% – Characterize field plots by measuring slope, aspect, and other relevant characteristics. 20% – Locate and navigate to and from field sites. 20% – Record and check data quality and completeness.
Minimum Qualifications:

Additional Required Qualifications:
- Two years of college-level courses in biology, ecology, forestry,or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
– Demonstrated experience and skills with plant identification and familiarity with woody plant species of the Pacific Northwest.
- Demonstrated experience conducting field work and collecting data for ecological research in post-fire ecosystems.
- Demonstrated experience working in remote, mountainous condition in the field for long hours both independently and as part of a small team.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive OSU motor pool vehicles.
