The Department of Chemical Engineering at American University of Sharjah is seeking a Research Associate to work on a project related to the treatment of industrial wastewater using nanomaterials functionalized with ionic liquids. The project is managed by Dr. Taleb H. Ibrahim, Professor of Chemical Engineering. The research will focus on the formulation of suitable nanomaterials functionalized with ionic liquids. The formulated system needs to be effective and industrially viable.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required:
The candidate is expected to have at least a master’s degree in chemical engineering or a related field and needs to demonstrate a broad experience in research related to the use of nanomaterials and ionic liquids in the treatment of industrial wastewater. In addition, the candidate needs to have experience in running instrumentation such as FTIR, TGA, SEM, ICP-MS, GC-MS, UV and related techniques. He/she must have a proven track record of publications in top tier journals.

Position Details:
The appointment duration will be for a one-year period with a possibility of second year renewal, contingent upon satisfactory performance and expected progress measured in terms of publications. The start date is September 2019.
