Plans and coordinates assembly processes, tools, fixtures and equipment for designated area of responsibility within assembly. Leads special projects as assigned including equipment/structure modifications within areas of responsibility. Will coordinate and organize via supplier.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and/or leads engineering changes and deviations for assembly.
  • Develops, evaluates and improves assembly process and process methods utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication process, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards.
  • Creates and maintains assembly process sheets.
  • Analyzes and plans space requirements and workflow and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Confers with finance, procurement, design staff and vendors concerning product design, process tools, fixtures and equipment to ensure efficient production methods and to arrange for purchase of equipment, materials or parts.
  • Evaluates product according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confers with management, engineering and other staff regarding assembly capabilities, production schedules and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future assembly requirements and potential.
  • Leads any special projects and/or self-initiated projects for continuous improvement, structural planning and/or other series and new model related planning projects.
  • Provides specialized technical guidance, training, process improvement activities and support to assigned process area and production associates.
  • Assists with analysis on process and quality issues not solvable by production areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by operations supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education: BA Degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering preferred): OR BS degree and the equivalent of 2 years related engineering experience

Experience: 1-3 years of experience in an engineering environment with automotive background; or participation in an engineering internship (automotive process or automotive manufacturing engineering preferred).

Preferred Skills:

  • Intermediate experience with flooring, paneling, and seating production installation process improvements and production changes.
  • Basic knowledge of Assembly department goals and objectives
  • Basic skills in client applications/systems (PCSQ, DZA, SAP, TAIS, IPA)
  • Intermediate experience in assembly and functionality of vehicle systems (electrical, mechanical, modular, & diagnostic preferred)
  • Intermediate problem investigation & data analysis experience
  • Intermediate = long and short-term project management experience (structure projects, continuous improvement, process analysis, new model)
  • Intermediate = cross functional communication experience
  • Intermediate = experience using Microsoft office applications
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Ability to use and apply statistical methods to aid with process analysis (risk filters, FMEAs, SPC, process/machine capability)
  • Ability to use quality planning tools
