The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah (http://www.mech.utah.edu/) invites applications for three tenure track positions at the assistant or associate rank with a Fall Semester 2018 starting date. Candidates with exceptional background and experience may be considered at a higher rank. Candidates with interest and expertise in the areas of i) solid mechanics, ii) robotics, and iii) thermal sciences are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates should be qualified to teach courses in the core curriculum of a mechanical engineering program, including existing courses and/or developing new courses that support their graduate program.

Candidates are expected to develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program that complements existing research programs. Collaborations in the Department, College of Engineering, School of Medicine, and elsewhere across campus are highly encouraged. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applicants are expected to have an earned Ph.D. or Sc.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field prior to start date. The Department of Mechanical Engineering currently has 38 tenure-line faculty members, over 1000 undergraduate and 245 graduate students. With funding from the state’s Engineering Initiative, the Department expects to hire up to nine additional faculty members over the next three years.
