Position Summary
Responsible for managing field experiments and plots associated with the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC). Establishes and lays out field research plots; maintains detailed field records; operates farm equipment deemed necessary to perform job duties, including but not limited to: tillage, planting, weed control, harvest, post-harvest process; and daily plot/site maintenance; assists in maintaining and repairing farm equipment and tracks; collects field data; summarize data into annual reports. Lab work includes sampling of plants, soil, water, trace gas fluxes, labeling, sieving soil, grinding soil and plant material, processing biomass using AFEX pretreatment, and preparing samples for analysis. Duties require working in remote field sites and working weekends, during peak seasons.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; up to six months of field work experience in agriculture, including knowledge of crops and farm equipment; basic computer knowledge; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of a valid vehicle operator's license; ability to obtain a pesticide applicator's license.
Desired Qualifications
Excellent communications skills are necessary.
Two to three years of experience in crop and soil science or related agricultural field.

This is an off dated position funded for one year from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding.
