Penn State’s Outdoor Education Field Lab and Nature Center—Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center (SCEC)—is seeking a creative, energetic, and experienced individual to help lead environmental education school programs. This wage position will work with the Environmental Education Day Programs Coordinator and Environmental Education Interns to teach on- and off-site school programs. Other responsibilities will include assisting with educational program design and organization of educational materials. Alongside a joy for teaching audiences of all ages in and about the natural world, successful candidates will have previous experience working with children, teaching in an outdoor setting, adaptability to varying weather conditions, and strong organizational skills. Candidates should also possess a strong environmental ethic consistent with the mission of Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center; a zero-waste facility situated 12 miles from University Park campus within Penn State’s 7,000-acre Stone Valley Forest. Candidates must have a high school diploma. A Bachelor`s degree in a related field is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience teaching in the outdoors or other related environmental education field. This 15-week, part-time wage position will begin on August 26, 2019 and will end on December 13, 2019 (with Thanksgiving week off). Candidates can expect to work up to 20 hours per week at a rate of $11.00/hour. Benefits are not included with this position. Working on-site at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center is required and will necessitate the use of a personal car for transportation to and from the workplace.
