School of International Affairs and Department of Risk Management

DESCRIPTION

The Penn State School of International Affairs (SIA) and the Department of Risk Management in the Smeal College of Business seek a candidate for an open rank (Assistant/Associate/Full) tenure track/tenured joint position to research and teach in the area of International Business. International Business is understood to relate to activities, strategies, structures, decision making, and strategic alliances, of firms and other organizational forms in the context of cross-border operations. It includes governance, and acquisition and exercise of property rights (e.g. mergers and acquisitions), and inter- and intraorganizational applications. Interest extends from the decision-making units themselves, to analysis of the context in which these activities take place, such as the cultural, economic, legal and political contexts of cross-border activity. A strong focus on the international dimensions of these topics is vital, and consideration of comparative analytical approaches would be a strong relevant consideration. An interest and demonstrated aptitude for working in interdisciplinary contexts is preferred. We seek candidates whose research bridges and contributes to both academic and applied work (and value candidate’s professional experiences). While the positions division between the schools is flexible, it is anticipated that 75% of the position would be housed in the School of International Affairs (which will be the tenure home) and 25% in Department of Risk Management, with teaching and service similarly distributed. A Ph.D. is required in fields relevant to International Business, which might include Business Administration, Management, Public Policy, Economics, Finance, Strategy, Corporate Governance, Entrepreneurship, Organizational Structure and Industrial Organization, or any other relevant field (e.g. J.D./Law). The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date. It is expected that a competitive candidate will have a demonstrated record of excellence in research, teaching and leadership appropriate to the candidate`s rank. For additional information regarding SIA, please refer to: www.sia.psu.edu. Applications must include a CV, cover letter, sample publications relevant to the post, teaching interests, and a statement of how the candidate’s work is relevant to the focus of the position. Three letters of recommendation and teaching evaluations will be requested on short listing. Salary and benefits are highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Relocation expenses, including recruitment/relocation incentive, may be authorized in accordance with applicable regulations. Penn State is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusive excellence that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engage all individuals to help them thrive. We value inclusive excellence as a core strength and an essential element of our public service mission. Any inquiries regarding the position can be directed to Johannes Fedderke, jwf15@psu.edu. For full consideration, please apply by September 14, 2019.
