Position Details

The Industrial Engineer (Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer) at ConMet is responsible for providing industrial engineering support for equipment projects and continuous improvement activities as part of our global Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Group. This group provides support to all ConMet manufacturing sites for new process development, manufacturing equipment development, continuous improvement activities and tooling.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering support to project managers for equipment and facilities projects.
  • Create and maintain required manufacturing process documentation, including process flow charts, capacity and utilization studies, time and motion studies, standard work, cycle time analysis and line balancing.
  • Create and maintain project documentation.
  • Maintain Project time lines and deliverables to support internal and external customers.
  • Understand and conduct cycle time studies for all processes and/or machine development.
  • Understand and conduct Value Stream Mapping for various processes.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma and root cause analysis to formulate/support corrective actions and continuous improvement activities.
  • Promote equipment and personnel safety throughout the company.
  • Drive technical requirements, support sourcing decisions and communicate with equipment integrators and machine vendors for plant production equipment, gages and tooling.
  • Support quoting and acquisition process for new equipment and equipment modifications. This involves injection molding, aluminum casting, machining, secondary and gaging operations, material flow and assembly processes.
  • Attend and lead project meetings as required.
  • Develop and design robust manufacturing concepts to simplify/improve manufacturing processes to ensure best-practice and lean manufacturing concepts to achieve or exceed quality and customer expectations.
  • Establish and maintain equipment specifications and performance requirements for manufacturing equipment.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, TPM, problem solving, investigate and determine root cause for process complaints, quality rejections and failures, formulate corrective actions, lead troubleshooting process and promote safety and cleanliness throughout the company.
  • Support Design activities with practical and sound engineering principles.
  • Support sourcing decisions and manage equipment integrators and tool vendor activities for plant production equipment, gauges and tooling.
  • Support quoting and acquisition process for new business and engineering changes. This involves injection molding, casting methods, machining, secondary operations, material flow and assembly processes.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering required
  • One or more years of Industrial Engineering experience required (this may include time spent in Industrial Engineering internships such as the MECOP internship program)
  • Yellow or Green Belt level Certification in 6 Sigma or Lean Manufacturing preferred
  • Project Management certification a plus
  • Experience in assembly and material handling, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Methodology, Time & Motion Studies, Process Flow, Value Stream Mapping, DFA/DFM, Line Balancing, Automation, MES

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective communication skills with all team members and customer representatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Candidate must be willing to, and have the flexibility to provide support for a continuous operations production environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel globally up to 30% of the time and work extended hours based on customer demand and production schedule.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD/and other CAD software.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office.
  • Ability to travel globally required (typically up to 30%)
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but not required
