POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Electronics Engineering Division (EED) within the Accelerator Directorate (AD) is responsible for the development, integration and operations of a variety of beam diagnostics, RF, Pulsed and DC power, Machine and personnel protection, Vacuum and Cryogenic Control Systems.

The EED requires a talented Electronics Engineer with a broad range of experience to help with many of the systems currently under development as well as the existing accelerators under the division’s responsibility. The successful candidate will bring to the division a diversity of skills relevant to electronics engineering and integration and be strategically deployed to enhance the capabilities of teams within the Directorate and Lab-wide.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):

  • Contribute to Rapid Response Teams by identifying and quickly resolving a diversity of technical issues that may arise within the Accelerator Directorate and in particular EED.
  • Participate in the development and operations of high performance electronic systems as well as industrial controllers.
  • Development of EPICS interfaces, IOCs and control panels as required for test and integration.
  • Contribute to the development of FPGA or PLC based systems as necessary.

Note:This is a 24 months fixed term position with the possibility of extension or conversion to a regular- continuing position.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field plus a minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the development and deployment of electronic systems for particle accelerators or detectors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience developing FPGA applications in Verilog or VHDL (preferably both
  • EPICS interfaces development for custom hardware (device support development and IOC configuration).
  • Ability to integrate systems, end-to-end, in a scientific facility.
  • Experience working in a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Strong analytical skills as applied to solving engineering problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in a culturally diverse organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in PLC based industrial control systems as applied to machine protection, cryogenics and vacuum systems.
