The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is seeking highly qualified candidates with expertise in nuclear plant probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), including broad experience and knowledge in reviewing PRAs as part of the regulatory review and performance of PRA studies. The qualified candidate will collaborate with a team to perform activities that include risk management of energy systems and/or national security to support business development and project implementation.

Responsibilities:
- Apply in-depth knowledge of risk assessment methodology and related data analysis techniques for nuclear facilities, plant life extension/reactor aging management, etc.
- Apply probabilistic risk and safety applications, along with model attributes that are necessary for the sound and defensible use of risk in a series of possible applications, including but not limited to:
• Transition of commercial nuclear power plant (NPP) deterministic programs to risk based approaches
• NPP plant life-extension beyond 60 years/reactor aging management
• Licensing decision-making
• Reliability-centered maintenance
• Hazard and consequence analysis
• Severe accident management
- Interpret standard analytical/engineering theories, principles, methods, tools and technologies, and adaptations of technical alternatives.
- Assemble multi-disciplinary risk teams and manage and mentor early career staff in accomplishing reviews and building capabilities in risk assessment across applicable PNNL groups.
- Manage technical products for the project to assure that they are delivered with the required level of quality, timeliness, and cost to meet or exceed program manager and client expectations.
- Publish research and participate in professional activities that advance the reputation of PNNL as a premier S&T institution.
- Lead regulatory and project document and presentation development.
- Lead proposal teams for developing business, and managing significant projects/programs.

Accountabilities:
- The Risk and Decision Sciences Technical Group Manager for general staff performance and development, operational discipline (e.g., maintaining training qualifications, procedural compliance, safe operations), and promoting cooperation and teamwork within group and projects.
- Program/Project Managers and Technology Leads for performing assigned project roles and following applicable project and laboratory procedures and performance of assigned tasks on time and within budget.

Minimum Qualifications

- BS and 5 years of experience, or an MS and 3+ years of experience, or a PhD and 1-2 years of experience.


Preferred Qualifications

- Degree in a technical field, preferably Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, or Economics.
- Technical expertise and knowledge of nuclear engineering, nuclear power plants and other nuclear systems and risk methodologies that can be applied to risk related studies of nuclear systems. This should include extensive knowledge of and practical experience in use of PRA modelling and other risk applications on nuclear systems. This would also include an understanding of how expert elicitation, Monte Carlo risk analyses, and decision informed tools can be used in studies of nuclear systems.
- The successful candidate will have a broad range of skills and familiarity with several of the following areas: probability, statistics, decision analysis, risk analysis, modeling and simulation, Multi-Criteria Analysis, and mathematical modeling.
- Past performance must demonstrate attributes of being self-motivated and self-directed, and must demonstrate experience managing multiple projects and leading interdisciplinary teams.
- In addition to analytical skills, a successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communications skills and experience in preparing, reviewing, and presenting the results of complex technical reports and recommendation to senior management.

This position requires the ability to obtain a federal security clearance in a timely manner. Which requires:
* U.S. Citizenship
* Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
* Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).

Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 consecutive months can be demonstrated.
