Hydranautics has an exciting opportunity for an Application Engineer at its Oceanside, CA facility.

The successful candidate will partner with sales staff and customers to provide technical support, answer a wide range of questions on product use and develop new product applications as well as identify necessary product design changes. The Application Engineer will attend plant commissionings to ensure proper startup activities, troubleshoot problems from plants, manage pilot studies, and evaluate product performance in new and existing applications through on-site customer support and pilot testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitates pilot testing activities and operation of membrane; evaluates plant data and assesses membrane performance; develops plant performance reports; troubleshoots plant problems and assesses returned products to identify root cause of performance issues making appropriate recommendations for system improvements.

  2. Characterizes membrane and product performance. Analyzes data from pilot tests to extrapolate design and performance to a full-scale system.

  3. Optimizes designs and recommends best product to meet customer performance requirements.

  4. Identifies ideas for novel and proprietary product designs and ways to significantly improve existing product offerings. Interfaces with other engineers and vendors to insure proper design.

  5. Develops bill of materials, specifications and tolerances for products; originates and oversees work instructions to transfer product from prototype to manufacturing. Guides Manufacturing to produce specialty/newly developed products.

  6. Presents organization’s technical information both internally and externally and answers a range of questions on product use, benefits for customers, and best practices.

  7. Compiles informational database on company’s product performance as well as competitors; identifies opportunities to differentiate company’s product designs.

  8. Develops technical documents describing new product application, operational instructions and proper use.

  9. Originates correspondence with regulatory agencies such as DWI, NSF, ACS and KIWA and private entities globally; takes necessary actions to obtain required product certifications and achieve “Fit for Use” certifications.

  10. Prepares technology case studies and technical papers for journals.

  11. Attends conferences and reads trade literature to identify potential new business opportunities.

  12. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong working knowledge of water chemistry concepts, fluid flow and water pressure as well as analytical method and technical writing; above average understanding of Reverse Osmosis, Ultrafiltration and Microfiltration processes and products.
  2. Strong working knowledge of plant processes, RO, NF and UF with practical application to the field.
  3. Strong understanding of Reverse Osmosis, Ultrafiltration and Microfiltration processes and products.
  4. Strong application of critical thinking skills along with exceptional problem solving skills.
  5. Strong multi-tasking skills, flexibility in responding to rapidly changing, dynamic processes and demands/pressures in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Strong ability to verbally communicate across functional organizational groups, provide high-level customer service through effective interpersonal skills and conflict resolution.
  7. Strong Microsoft Office Suite software applications such as Excel, Word, Power Point and other enterprise software applications such as JD Edwards
  8. Strong language skills with the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
  9. Write clear processes, manuals and reports for management review and present technical information in understandable terms and respond to questions from groups of customers, employees and/or general public.
  10. Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

    Education and/or Experience:

    1. Bachelor of Science degree in chemical, environmental, mechanical engineering or a comparable area; 3 year's directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    2. Two (2) year's experience in the water industry preferred.
    3. Experienc in OEM companies a plus.
