Penn State University Libraries’ Public Relations and Marketing office is seeking a congenial, creative, contemporary-minded visual communications professional. Reporting to the manager of Public Relations and Marketing, this position supports the strategic communications activities of a “digital first”-minded department’s staff to promote the Libraries' public services, resources, and events to Penn State students, faculty/staff, and external audiences. Duties of the position include creating, editing, and effectively organizing and maintaining the department’s collection of digital and print signage, graphics files, print publications, and promotional handout files, and high-quality visual content supporting student-centered news releases and social media posts. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency and effective use of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign applications, with Final Cut Pro and Microsoft Office 365 applications proficiency also desired. Applicants with a strong understanding of Penn State’s visual identity standards and brand toolkit and experience using Nikon DSLR photography equipment for photography and videography in and outside a studio setting are strongly preferred. This position will be filled at a Level 3. In addition to resume and cover letter documents applicants are asked to please upload four or more separate images or PDF files, or else separate text files with a title/short description and online link of representative examples of their original promotional work, plus two more separate files or files with a short description and online link of photography or videography work for a minimum total of eight documents per applicant. Each sample should demonstrate a range of skills that also are highly suitable for on-campus and online audiences. The University Libraries is a multicultural environment that embraces respect and inclusion. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will exhibit skills in distilling and interpreting abstract scholarly communications concepts through modern communications best practices, including for accessibility, and will be expected to work well and with flexibility in a small, team-oriented, collegial setting to implement a unified body of integrated marketing and communications initiatives. Strengths in written and interpersonal communication, collaboration, and working efficiently while exhibiting high attention to detail and good judgment in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, plus dedication to quality, professionalism, and consultative customer service skills are of the highest priority. This position requires a self-starter who is able to work independently as well as with a team, who gathers energy from being part of an innovative and dynamic group, and who has the ability to set priorities and manage multiple request- and deadline-driven projects from start to finish. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
