About the Job

The Faculty of Engineering at Western University seeks highly qualified applicants for up to ten (10) full-time probationary (tenure-track) or tenured position(s) at all ranks. We seek energetic and innovative candidates with a track record of outstanding research, and a commitment to excellence in education and research contributing substantially to the following identified key strategic research areas:

  • Sustainability, Environment, Resiliency and Adaptive Systems: Building a sustainable future with specializations in water, environmental remediation, nanotechnology, natural disaster mitigation and management, and energy (power systems, biofuels and alternative energy systems)
  • Biomedical Engineering, Technology in Health & Medicine: Imaging, robotics, biomaterials and biomechanics, medical devices, cell biology and anatomy, and musculoskeletal health
  • Innovative Materials and Biomaterials: Advanced materials and biomaterials, composites
  • Ubiquitous Information and Communication: Cloud computing, big data analytics, high performance computing and communication

Applications will be reviewed for appointments to be effective from July 1, 2017 or as negotiated. Positions will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (tenured or probationary (tenure-track)) depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate and will be appointed in one of four engineering departments depending on the research field aligned to respective departments area of research specialization and teaching interests: Chemical and Biochemical, Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical and Materials. We are also expanding our undergraduate programs in Software Engineering and Mechatronics Systems Engineering. Joint appointments within Engineering and across other Faculties are also possible.

For a probationary appointment, successful candidates will have completed a Ph.D. degree in the appropriate Engineering field, or a closely related discipline, demonstrate excellence or clear promise of excellence in research, including evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates independent research potential leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding.

For a tenured appointment, successful candidates will have completed a Ph.D. degree in the appropriate Engineering field, provide evidence of excellence in research and impact through publications in the highest quality journals, have an established internationally-recognized, externally-funded research program, with evidence of interdisciplinary collaborations. An exceptional profile with respect to teaching and training of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels is also required.

All candidates will be expected to participate in the normal administrative, educational and professional activities of the Department, Faculty and University. The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the core areas of their discipline. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills and evidence of developing and maintaining research collaborations. Commitment to and eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is required for these appointments.
