3M is seeking a Control Systems Engineer for the Supply Chain Operations Division located in Northridge, CA.

Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Control Systems Engineerwill be a key resource for the 3M Northridge, CA manufacturing plant. This individual will be a member of the Division PI&CS engineering organization and will report directly to the Division PI&CS Technology Manager.

This individual will provide engineering expertise to implement process instrumentation and controls solutions for the 3M Northridge, CA manufacturing plant. Develop an in-depth global understanding of plant’s needs and requirements to assure the plant meets current business needs. Work closely with leadership, plant engineering and the IT organizations to identify, prioritize, oversee and implement projects. Coordinate internal and external resources needed and provide leadership and coaching for technical plant engineering staff.

Successful candidate should have demonstrable skills in various process/industrial instruments and controls. A solid background in Allen-Bradley controls systems and hardware is highly desirable. Additional experience including in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), robotics, motion control, variable frequency drives (VFD), control and process valves and servos is a plus. The candidate should have a thorough knowledge of various control signals, temperature systems, object detectors, fluid and pressure instrumentation, differential pressure measurements and metrology.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead controls aspects of capital projects with Division Engineering partners
  • Lead equipment validation and implementation
  • Lead strategic improvement initiatives for the department
  • Support Systems Technicians with tactical projects and growth
  • Drive continuous improvement activities for the plant

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited Institution in the Engineering or Science discipline
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience with any combination of the following: manufacturing, capital projects, equipment installation, and/or troubleshooting support

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Controls engineering experience
  • Five (5)+ years of experience of manufacturing, equipment installation and troubleshooting support
  • Knowledge and experience in a manufacturing site working with maintenance and resident engineering
  • cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) experience
  • Experience working on classified areas (C1D1, C1D2)
  • Experience in maintaining process instrumentation
  • Experience in programming manufacturing equipment
  • Experience in capital project support and management
  • Proven track record of performance in process improvement
  • Demonstrated project leadership skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with a cross functional team in the manufacturing organization
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly define and achieve goals

Location: Northridge, CA

Travel: May include up to 10% travel
