The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) is recruiting a full-time Project Coordinator ( Title Research Assistant) for a 3-year project that aims at improving public health preparedness to COVID-19 and other potential global health threats at local, national and regional levels. This project is funded by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) Canada. It is an implementation research project with implications on practice and policy.

About the Project:

The specific objectives of this project are the following:
1, To understand the current national pandemic response in Lebanon and identify its strengths and weaknesses, including the extent to which refugees and vulnerable populations are included, to inform a better response to future pandemics.
2. To design and implement a comprehensive and integrated community-centered approach to public health interventions for COVID-19 that builds local community capacity to address the needs of both refugees and host community.

The Principal Investigator of the overall project is the Associate Dean of FHS and the project is being led and implemented by the directors of FHS centers: Center for Research on Population and Health (CRPH), Center for Public Health Practice (CPHP), and Knowledge to Policy (K2P) Center. Several committees will be established to guide the strategic direction of the project and ensure the achievement of the project objectives and effective participation of stakeholders. Three full-time Research Assistants (RA) will be recruited to support the research, interventions and knowledge translation activities of the project.

Responsibilities:
1. Develop TORs of the project committees in collaboration with the project leads
2. Develop the working plans of the project and identify adequate human and material resources needed for their implementation in collaboration with the project team (leads and RAs).
3. Design the evaluation plan of the project and lead on its implementation – data collection, analysis and write-up.
4. Collaborate with the project team and committees, government entities, local authorities, local actors, NGOs, community groups and project consultants to ensure the timely delivery of key project milestones and high-quality outputs.
5. Develop the communication and outreach plan of the project.
6. Monitor the implementation of the working plans to map progress and determine areas for improvement.
7. Develop and deliver both written and visual outputs, in English and Arabic, that are appropriate for different stakeholders, including refugee communities, municipalities and other NGOs.
8. Draft quarterly and annual reports on progress.
9. Coordinate all committee(s) meetings and write the minutes.
10. Compile all the products and resources developed during the course of the project, including training material, policy briefs, research reports, promotional material, case-studies, manuscripts, media campaigns, etc.
11. Oversee and monitor the project expenditures in collaboration with FHS grants' manager.

Qualifications and essential skills:
1. Master's degree in Public Health or Social Sciences or related field
2. Expertise in monitoring and evaluation
3. Team management and leadership skills
4. Demonstrated experience in community organization and development
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic
6. Excellent organizational, teamwork and interpersonal skills
7. Competency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and Outlook) and project management tools

Desirable skills:
1. Qualitative research experience
2. Effective use of social media
3. Knowledge of online platforms for community outreach/capacity building
