The Academic Support Center (ASC) at American University of Sharjah seeks an Academic Advisor to work with students on academic probation, students who have been reinstated following dismissal, and those who need academic accommodations due to a documented, approved disability. The advisors report directly to the Director of ASC under the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Instruction and will work closely with faculty and the Office of the Registrar.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Effectively utilize interpersonal advising techniques to counsel students in academic difficulty in ways to improve their academic standing.
2. Respond to inquiries from students, parents, and faculty.
3. Maintain appropriate student records, notes, statistics, etc.
4. Maintain current knowledge of AUS academic policies and procedures, college curriculum and rules, advising policies and procedures.
5. Develop learning contracts to support student success and track the academic progress of the assigned student caseload.
6. Generate reports on student success and service utilization.
7.  Collaborate with faculty and administrators on student matters and refer to appropriate campus resources.
8. Coordinate academic accommodations for students with disabilities.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required:
1. Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or in a related field.
2. Have experience working with a diverse group of students and professionals in a multicultural setting.
3. Ability to learn AUS requirements, policies, and procedures.
4. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
5. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
6. Possess computer skills including but not limited to MS office, database management, electronic scheduling and record keeping software.
7. Be detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills.
8. Ability to work as a team player.
9. Fluency in both English and Arabic is an asset.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in education, psychology, or in a related field.
2. Experience in academic advising or disability services.
