Aalto Nanofab at the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering is seeking to hire a M.Sc. or doctoral level expert for conducting technical service in the field of micro and nanotechnology. The position is located in Micronova cleanroom facility at Otaniemi campus area. Micronova – Centre for Micro and nanotechnology is part of National OtaNano research infrastructure.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The laboratory or cleanroom engineer is a member of service staff who are specialists in the development and support of large-scale research infrastructures and complex research equipment, in this case Aalto University’s cleanroom facility in Micronova.

You will be a part of a team of approximately ten people consisting of cleanroom and laboratory engineers and technicians, and staff scientists with a role in maintaining and developing the cleanroom capabilities for the researchers and other cleanroom users.

The tasks include:

Responsibility of the selected tools and processes in the cleanroom and laboratories (installations, maintenance, training, and process development) for example on:
Etching and deposition tools (RIE, PVD processes, PECVD, electroplating)
Furnaces (for example oxidation, diffusion, RTA)
Other tools (SEM, Laser writer, wafer bonder, laser micromachining)

General guidance and tool specific training for the cleanroom users
Planning and implementation of cleanroom equipment purchases and installations
Other tasks in Micronova’s cleanroom and laboratory environment

The responsibilities will be tailored according to the qualifications and competence of the selected candidate.

REQUIREMENTS

M. Sc. or preferably Doctoral degree in relevant field
Significant experience in working in cleanroom environment
Demonstrated evidence of successful work in similar role (installation, development, user training and maintenance of complex tools)

Practical and professional work experience in the fields of:
Cleanroom processing
Laboratory equipment maintenance and repairs preferably inside the cleanroom

Theoretical knowledge and practical experience, preferably in multitude of following technologies and tools:
Dry etching (RIE, ICP-RIE, IBE)
Deposition (Sputtering, PECVD, evaporation, electroplating)
Furnace processes (oxidation, diffusion, annealing)
Other microfabrication technologies (lithography, laser writing, laser ablation, wafer bonding)
Characterization (optical microscopes, SEM, ellipsometer)

Service oriented mind-set
Ability to communicate in English in oral and written

Following will be considered as merits for the position:
Doctoral level education in relevant field
International and/or industrial experience
Teaching experience and/or formal teaching education
Demonstrated experience in managing cross-contamination in cleanroom environment

SALARY AND CONTRACT TERMS
Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. The position will be permanent, and the contract includes occupational health and social security benefits. The planned starting date is in Jan 2018, but can be negotiated.
