About Avegant:

Avegant is a well-funded, venture-backed technology company developing the next-generation of light field displays. We are pioneering innovative hardware and software solutions that will forever change how we learn, play, work and interact with each other. We’ve won multiple awards, our team is best in class, and we’re just getting started.

Avegant is about the journey of innovation, and we want to take you with us. If you think you have what it takes to be part of our incredible team, then come join us and be part of a company that is making mixed reality possible.

Overview:

Avegant is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer that is not only great at what they do, but who will be an integral part of our team. We’re seeking someone with a strong background in the design and development of analog and digital hardware subsystems (this is a must!). You will be responsible for the characterization of our products, including regulation and testing of the final product. You’ll help drive the design of next generation head mounted display devices focusing on entertainment (movie and video watching), gaming and other applications, as well as participate in cutting edge research on new Augmented Reality technologies. Previous experience in the consumer electronics industry is a huge plus.

Working together and supporting each other is critical to our success. We function well as a team, and are better together because we actually enjoy each other’s company! Our team-building happens both organically and with intention—through daily lunch together in the office, shooting hoops after lunch, handling meetings over nature walks, and team events outside of the office. We’re seeking candidates that will continue to bring that same enthusiasm to the team!

Responsibilities:

  • HW design of next generation head mounted displays working closely with mechanical, optical and firmware teams.
  • Documentation and regulatory testing (FCC, CE, UL, etc) and interfacing with external Lab
  • Product Characterization, documentation test plan and execution
  • Product Test plan, documentation and execution
  • Design of digital computing subsystems for VR/AR products with associated memory and power management subsystems.
  • Development of digital architectures for the next generation of smart head mounted display products.
  • Power Management for battery operated products including achieving targets for power consumption, battery life and battery charging circuits.
  • Audio and Video design utilizing next generation display standards and high definition video and audio content for entertainment and gaming.
  • Integration of wireless subsystems including Bluetooth, wifi and other wireless communication protocols working closely with key RF suppliers.
  • Where applicable, work with design and delivery partners to achieve on time and on budget product delivery.
  • Interface with key suppliers of components and subsystems, establishing specifications and validation procedures.
  • Design and delivery of PCBs for manufacturing including IC and component selection, schematic design, layout review, initial board bring up, validation, and product certification.
  • Provide detailed schematic, layout, and BOM reviews for engineering teammates.
  • Some international and domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications:

  • BSEE or equivalent preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical development including symbol creation, schematics, PCB design, as well as board and system-level bring up.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams (FW, EE, acoustic, ME, ID) to weigh performance tradeoffs and ultimately define system design.
  • Proven ability to independently find and select 3rd party partners including the ability to articulate decision making process to a broader engineering team.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly debug and root cause complex system bugs in electrical, acoustic, firmware, and test domains; both in design phase and during the product life cycle.
  • Experience in PCB level design of systems, layout best practices, and best practice for manufacturability. PCB layout experience a plus.
  • Experience in managing product cost and cost reduction.
  • Experience in serial protocols (e.g. I2S, I2C, SPI, USB, UART, etc.).
  • Experience with analog and digital sensors (accelerometer, gyro, IR, cap touch, microphones, etc.).
  • Experience with ADC, DAC
  • Familiar with Video protocols like HDMI, DP
  • Familiar with Display technology and design
  • Experience with CPU architecture, Microcontrollers, design, debug and bring up
