Geological Engineer – Refinery ApplicationsWhiting IndianaAre you a Geological Engineer or Civil Engineer with a strong foundation in groundwater contamination and hydrogeology? Do you have a passion for solving remediation problems and an understanding of subsurface processes? If so, join a team of creative, innovative and hard-working engineers and scientists, working together to help find solutions to solve contamination problems? We are hiring problem solverswho thrive on professional challenges in a high energy environment. We are actively looking for a Geological Engineer to support remediation systems in an active refinery in northwest Indiana. In this role, you will focus on system health monitoring for groundwater remediation systems. You will be expected to perform a wide variety of complex and diverse engineering tasks and subsurface analysis to identify and mitigate groundwater contamination and, as necessary, to modify equipment design or propose equipment repair. The successful candidate will have practical knowledge of hydrogeology in order to address groundwater engineering contamination problems, and will be able to identify and understand the distribution and movement of water through soil and sediments and will be able to use modeling and statistical tools to optimize remediation system performance. Additional responsibilities will include characterizing the subsurface using aquifer tests, assessing the transport and remediation of contaminants, evaluating the interaction between the equipment and below ground fluids, and recommending improvements in groundwater management. The successful candidate will function within an environment of high expectations for both work product and safe field practices, and will be a self-starter who takes initiative following orientation and training.Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Perform System Health Monitoring functions of remediation equipmentPerform groundwater and light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPL) recovery, remediation system pilot testing, and assist with remediation system repair and maintenanceEvaluating, troubleshooting, and optimizing groundwater and LNAPL remediation systems;Field sampling and field oversight of contractors potentially including drilling and chemical well cleaning;LNAPL characterization, delineation and hydro-geologic evaluations;Data compilation and evaluation, cost estimating, oral and written communications and report preparation.Preparing remediation system performance reports and presentations.BS in Geological Engineering or Civil Engineering with specialization in water resources engineering or groundwater engineering, or Environmental Engineering with extensive coursework in Subsurface Contaminant Transport, Groundwater Modeling, Vadose Zone Hydrology, Soil mechanics, Hydrogeology, and Multi-Phase Flows.
  • Must have groundwater-related coursework such as hydrogeology and groundwater modeling and/or a minimum of 6 months (multiple internships) work experience in those areas in environmental remediation, preferably in an active refinery.
  • Prefer Masters Degree in Engineering with heavy coursework in soil mechanics, groundwater engineering, hydrogeology
  • Prefer some experience with operations and maintenance of pumps, valves and/or other groundwater remediation system equipment.
