The IBM Research – Almaden (San Jose, CA) Nanoscale Science & Technology Group is seeking a candidate for a postdoctoral appointment to develop novel materials and device approaches towards quantum and neuromorphic computing devices. In particular, the candidate will be responsible for the device design, fabrication and measurements of quantum nanoscale devices. 

The candidate should have a proven background in Quantum and Statistical Physics, contemporary nanoscience and nanoscale Physics, as well as an in-depth understanding of electrical engineering topics such as RF electronics. Experience using measurement automation and data analysis techniques such as Labview, Python, Java, Matlab, etc is expected.

Familiarity with standard thin film growth and characterization techniques is advantageous but, is not required. The candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of device physicists, materials scientists, lithography experts, and process engineers at IBM Research - Almaden. 

The candidate is expected to have good written and oral communication skills, evidenced by a strong record of publications and presentations, and should have demonstrated success in team-based projects.Candidates having earned at least a Masters degree in Nanoscience, Nano-Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field is required and PhD degree in any of these fields is preferred.

Desired Skills and Experience

At least 1 year experience in Quantum and Statistical Physics.
At least 1 year experience in measurement automation and data analysis techniques (Labview, Java, Python, Matlab, etc)
