Position Summary

Position is in a mammalian oocyte and embryo biology and epigenetics laboratory setting, as part of a collaborative project between Dr. Keith Latham and Dr. James Ireland. Person will study mechanisms regulating mammalian oogenesis, fertility and early embryogenesis, using diverse model species with clinical and translational relevance, including mouse and cattle. Successful candidate will benefit from working within the dynamic Reproductive and Developmental Sciences Program here at MSU (rdsp.canr.msu.edu). Studies involve a combination of endocrinology, advanced embryology, cell biology and molecular techniques, including microsurgical nuclear transfer, oocyte retrieval, embryo manipulation, genetic analyses, transcriptome and pathway analysis, protein expression studies, epigenetic studies, and methods for manipulating gene expression.

The successful candidate will participate in a research program specializing in mammalian oocyte and embryo biology. The candidate will be responsible for executing various advanced molecular biology assays, as well as scheduling, design, coordination, and execution of various molecular and embryological assays. This will include assay validation, adherence to SOPs, quality control of data, data analysis, data security, and documentation of study results. Candidate will also be responsible for microsurgical manipulation, microinjection, and electroporation of mammalian oocytes and embryos, and cell cultures. Other duties include mouse husbandry, breeding, surgery, and tissue collection. Candidate will adhere to policies of regulatory compliance and good laboratory practices. Candidate will be responsible for design and production of power point presentations, preparing manuscripts, preparing periodic progress reports, and other reporting activities. Candidate will assist with ordering supplies, maintaining and validating equipment, training and supervising student employees, maintaining compliance and records, and tracking laboratory expenditures.
