Lyft is hiring an experienced Software Engineer for our innovative Strategy team.

We are an incubator-style startup division that works directly with our Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), CEO, and President to concept and launch new and experimental technology. This is a high-velocity team of dedicated people who push each other to do our greatest work - and have each other’s back.

Work happens at our beautiful San Francisco office where with a strong focus on delightful user experiences. We’re scaling backend and cloud infrastructure, optimizing real time and localized supply and demand, predicting future platform demand, creating intuitive UX flows, optimizing dispatch based on real-time data and real-world edge cases, and much more.

What You'll Do:

  • Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code. Quickly.
  • Connect the dots - Do a lot of prototyping and you’re great at understanding and communicating the tradeoffs of speed-to-market and technical debt
  • Ownership of critical path features and code
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge.
  • Design, architect, and build new solutions to problems that may not have been solved by anyone in the world. Ever.

Must Haves:

  • B.S., M.S., or PhD. in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Experience with object-oriented programming
  • 4+ years with Java and/or python
  • Experience working with databases, relational or NoSQL
  • Great oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a startup environment

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with javascript and CSS
  • Experience with real-time technology problems
  • Experience integrating APIs
  • Experience with mobile development
  • Previous work with social networks
  • Contributions to open source projects
  • Passion for sustainability and/or transportation
