Job description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Maintain existing process procedures, material standards, cost reductions, and source development.

  • Document and maintain material standards and processes for domestic case goods. (15%)
  • Assist/support/advise Material Development Mgr, Designers during color development. (15%)
  • Collaborate with Design/Engineering on new market introductions. (10%)
  • Assist manufacturing/purchasing on material cost reduction. (15%)
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing for first runs and establishing standards. (15%)
  • Ensure quality testing is performed. (10%)
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings, training, and education. Assist with training other employees and providing backup.
  • Maintain reliable attendance.
  • Complete other assignments and special projects as requested.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Primarily responsible for own work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Associate’s Degree or related field experience with experience in quality and project management, global sourcing, decorative laminates, and finishing systems. Required

Experience

2 years of experience related to materials development

Knowledge of:

  • Working knowledge of furniture manufacturing processes and materials
  • Solids Modeling software, CAM software
  • Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement tools
  • Documents management system, record Management

Skills and Abilities

  • Work with all aspects of manufacturing and supporting areas such as purchasing, engineering, design, as well as having a broad range of contacts for outside sourcing
  • Detect and define in detail: color contrast, and any degree of effect within a design relevant to the aesthetic value of a part or mix of any components
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, MRP, InternetEffective interpersonal communication skills
  • Lead and direct others to generate expected results
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously within established time constraint

  • Respond professionally in situations with difficult employee/vendor/customer issues or inquiries

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Analytical and problem solving skills

  • Work independently as well as in a team environment

  • Effective time management and organizational skills

  • Promote teamwork, and a demonstrated ability to lead people to get results

  • Management of resources to optimize- equipment, facilities, employees, methods, and materials
