About the Position:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic senior level civil engineer/hydrologist to work with our existing team of hydrologists, geomorphologists, civil engineers, scientists and water quality specialists in our Los Angeles or San Diego offices. Responsibilities of this position include hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, quantitative analysis of physical processes, watershed/drainage analysis, water and sediment quality monitoring and assessment, stormwater best management practices design and assessment, report writing, field surveys, and task and budget management, along with other project management in support of multi-objective shore, wetland and creek enhancement and restoration designs and natural resource and watershed management. Typical tasks may include: modeling estuarine, creek and stormwater hydrology and water quality, flood studies and inundation modeling, collecting field data and water quality monitoring, calculating sand transport, estimating sedimentation and erosion rates, mapping erosion and flood hazard zones, preparing report text and graphics, contributing to designs for wetland and creek restoration, inlet management plans, watershed and water resource plans, and shoreline realignment. This position will lead to increasing project management experience over time, but some initial experience is desired.

Requirements

You should have a Master of Science or higher degree in civil/hydrology engineering, water resources engineering, physical sciences, or a closely related field with a strong technical foundation in hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management and/or geomorphology. A Bachelor of Science degree with appropriate experience will be considered. Required technical skills include proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis. Four or more years of experience in creek/fluvial hydrology/hydraulic, stormwater modeling and analysis, coastal processes, field data collection, Matlab programming, AutoCAD, and/or GIS are desirable. You must have excellent writing skills and the demonstrable ability to verbally communicate effectively with colleagues and clients.

ESA works primarily in California, but has projects throughout the West and beyond; some travel is required.
