Job Description:
Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of the Main library, the Director of Public Service provides effective administration and leadership for the Library Public Service functions in support of the teaching, research and learning goals of AUC. The Director is responsible for overseeing all administrative aspects in this unit and the overall management of public services areas: Research, Instruction, Access/Circulation and the External and outreach services. The position holder will play a key role in implementing innovation and change within the Public Service department, ensuring that services delivered are user-focused, effective and at the leading edge of best practice within the field.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assumes full management responsibility for all Public Service functions: Reference (in person and virtual) Circulation and Access, Instruction, External, and outreach community services
2. Develops and implements the unit's strategic goals, objectives, KPIs and budgetary priorities
3. Facilitates collaboration and communication among all members of the public service team
4. Mentors and leads a diverse team of library faculty and staff, and provides administrative oversight with the managerial tasks of recruiting and evaluating the Public Service team
5. Ensures that Public service staff receive appropriate training to effectively carry out research and service functions
6. Plans and implements the merge of all Main Library service functions to ensure the best and most effective quality user services (in person and virtual)
7. Leads the planning of the operation of the Accessibility Hub
8. Provides expertise and leadership in the implementation of new instructional models and information literacy techniques and in fostering an innovative instructional literacy program
9. Demonstrates leadership skills in coordinating the efforts of the RIS instruction team
10. Actively participates in the library liaison program and engages with departmental teaching faculty to understand their library needs, develop collegial partnerships, and promote library services
11. Serves on the Library Council, with other members of the Library leadership team, to advance the mission, vision, and values of the Libraries

Requirements:
1. ALA-accredited MLIS degree
2. Demonstrated commitment to diversity
3. At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory, management or leadership role
4. Supervisory experience of reference and access services functions
5. Supervisory experience that demonstrates strategic thinking, managing, and leading diverse teams of library faculty and staff
6. Demonstrated knowledge of information literacy best practices in strategies, methodologies, and practice within academic libraries
7. Knowledge of recent information technology applications relevant to library services, specifically those relevant to classroom application
8. Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills for multiple audiences
9. Excellent demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple ongoing projects
10. Strong commitment to quality service
11. Experience in working with users from diverse backgrounds
12. Demonstrated understanding of practices and principles for assessing student learning
