The Resin Manufacturing Engineer will provide both Process and Product Engineering leadership focusing on safety, product quality, customer expectations, and continuous improvement for the resin manufacturing processes at 3M in Decatur, AL.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Be the key contact for resin products produced in Decatur.
  • Lead the Value Stream TQRDCE process to maintain alignment on product priorities.
  • Partner with film lines across FMSCO to drive improvements in resin quality, flow, storage and inventory management.
  • Establish and maintain product specifications in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Develop and update test methods and consensus standards to drive quality improvements
  • Support local and global manufacturing teams on rapid resolution of customer complaints; including timely response, communication and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Lead and support quality improvement projects and quality audits in manufacturing.
  • Use Lean Six Sigma tools and methodology to drive improvements.
  • Perform capability assessments and cost estimates for new opportunities.
  • Drive process development, recommend new equipment and modification to support cost improvements and new product introductions.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement of assigned products and processes such as operating efficiency, rates and yields.
  • Assure process safety on process changes and operational safety procedures.
  • Lead new product development including setting up new specifications and raw materials.
  • Maintain awareness of customer needs and industry trends and translate those into measurable specifications and test methods for product development and manufacturing.
  • Work with internal and external resources as needed to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to cover nights, weekends, and holidays to support 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year continuous manufacturing

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in Manufacturing, Process, and/or Product Engineering environment.
  • Two (2) or more years’ experience with process and product development.
  • B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Experience in resin or polymer manufacturing, extrusion, casting, film making, coating, and winding
  • The successful candidate should demonstrate experience in best manufacturing practices (i.e. Six Sigma, SPC, Lean) and must exhibit strong organization, communication, project management, and coaching skills.

Location: Decatur, Alabama

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel
