Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Scientist / Toxicologist to join our team in the Atlanta, GA office.

The successful candidate can look forward to being part of the AECOM Environmental Business Line. The Environmental Business Line currently offers the full range of environmental consulting services to federal, state and local government and private clients. Current staff within the group represents a wide variety of scientific disciplines including environmental engineers, geologists, biologists, chemists, wetland specialists, planners and other environmental scientists.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare environmental reports such as site conceptual models and manage tasks delegated by Project Managers, which may include bid solicitation, oversight of subcontractors and tracking of key performance indicators

  • Support AECOM practice of emerging contaminants and collaborate with AECOM academia partners on technology development and commercialization

  • Assist in meeting project and client requirements for quality, staff resources, scheduling, budgeting and reporting of assigned technology development tasks/projects

  • Support AECOM remediation practice leaders on developing emerging markets

  • Assist in AECOM treatability laboratory capability building and development

  • Collaborate and support remediation project managers and technical advisors on environmental site investigation and remediation

  • Support AECOM projects with responsibility to transition new technologies or tools from laboratory to project applications

  • Develop R&D proposals for technology development funding

  • Identify new technology and analytical tools for PFAS investigation and remediation

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Planning, Engineering or related field

  • 4+ years of experience in the environmental consulting field

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work within given deadlines

  • Ability to work within a team as well as an individual and capable of taking directions/constructive criticism

  • Strong background in new technology and analytical tools for PFAS investigation and remediation, particularly in electrochemical oxidation for PFAS treatment

  • Selected candidate will be required to complete 40 hour HAZWOPER training and/or annual 8 hour refresher class

  • Must be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination

  • Candidate must have strong analytical skills, be organized, be a team player, be a critical thinker, be a problem-solver and be self-motivated

  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • Attention to detail and desire to complete quality work products

Preferred Qualifications

  • 40-hr OSHA HAZWOPER training and all annual updates

  • Professional registration, license and/or certification, as applicable are a plus
