Position Summary

Michigan State University is one of the top institutions for biomedical research. One position for a postdoctoral research associate is available in the laboratory of Dr. Brian Schutte in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. https://mmg.natsci.msu.edu/people/faculty/schutte-brian/

We seek an excellent post-doctoral associate to conduct research to understand the role of periderm development and function during development of the palate. Strong skills and experience with genetics is expected. The successful applicant will be independent, motivated, and able to work as part of a collaborative team. S/he will have proven skills in genetics and molecular laboratory techniques, as well as strong writing and communication skills. A familiarity with complex traits, especially orofacial clefting will be viewed favorably. Applicants should hold a PhD in a field related to genetics or bioinformatics/genomics.

The postdoc will be part of the Craniofacial Interest Group, a multi-institutional and disciplinary research group. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to interact with a wide range of researchers in human, mouse, zebrafish genetics and genomics, and both medical and dental clinicians.

This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position with reappointment contingent on satisfactory performance and available funding.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should hold a PhD in a field related to genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics/genomics.

Desired Qualifications

The successful applicant will have demonstrated skills in mammalian genetics or genomics and genetic or gneomic analyses. Skills desired include: strong writing and communication skills; standard genetic and/or molecular laboratory skills or past related experience; past experiences in working with human and or animal tissues or nucleic acid samples. A record of scientific publication in peer-reviewed journals is expected. An interest in or familiarity with craniofacial genetics, especially orofacial clefting will be viewed favorably. The successful applicant must be independent, motivated, and able to work as part of a collaborative team.
