As a member of our Rail team in downtown Saint Paul, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplined group of professionals to provide services for Class I, short line, and passenger railroads throughout the country. Your role will include the design of industrial and maintenance facilities, locomotive fueling stations, bulk handling structures, and administration buildings. In addition to serving as a technical expert by preparing design calculations, plan sets, specifications, and construction cost estimates, you will also demonstrate your project management abilities by planning, directing, and monitoring all aspects of multi-disciplined projects, from conceptual design through construction administration. You will also have the opportunity to mentor and develop Graduate Engineers and Technicians who will work alongside of you. You will also become involved with and occasionally lead efforts to market services and develop business opportunities by identifying and tracking leads, cultivating and establishing client relationships, developing proposals, and preparing and delivering presentations.

Required Qualifications.To make an impact and contribute to our team, you must possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota with a minimum of five (5) years of previous experience designing industrial facility structures.

  • Experience working with regulatory agencies and knowledge of the permit application process.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, RISA, and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Proficiency in drafting and assembling plan sets, specifications, and construction cost estimates.

  • Previous experience or aspirations to manage projects and lead a multi-disciplined project team.

  • Previous experience performing construction observation and inspection services.

  • Previous client management experience with ability to establish and maintain client relationships.

  • Ability to apply effective written and verbal communication when developing proposals, preparing technical reports, and participating in or leading project team meetings.

  • Ability to travel up to 30% for team meetings, client consultations, site inspections / visits, etc.; Overnight travel will be required.

Preferred Qualifications:The following qualifications are a plus and will be beneficial to achieving success in your new role:

  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering.

  • Structural Engineer in the State of Minnesota or other states.

  • Previous experience assisting with or leading business development activities including preparation of proposals and fee estimates.

  • Working knowledge of STAAD / RISA.
