College Profile:
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) houses eleven departments, covering a wide range of undergraduate specializations in the Arts and Sciences including English Literature & Linguistics and Arabic Languages, Humanities, Sociology, Social Work, International Affairs, Mass Communication, Psychology, Policy, Planning & Development, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, Material Science, Sports Science, and Human Nutrition. The College also houses five Master Programs, which are in Environmental Science, Biomedical Sciences, Gulf Studies, Material Science and Arabic Language. In Fall 2013, CAS launched a PhD in Biological and Environmental Sciences. Additionally, the College offers a Program of Arabic for Non- Native Speakers. In addition, the newly established three research centers namely Center for Humanities and Social Sciences, Center for Sustainable Development, and Gulf Studies Center.
It is worth mentioning that as members of QU, CAS faculty members have excellent opportunities to secure intramural and extramural funding for their research ideas. Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) is a major source of research funding, with individual project funding limit exceeding 1 million/project (5 million exceptional projects) along with student research funding programs. As the national and largest University in the country, Qatar University is the recipient of most of QNRF awards, with many research- active faculty members able to win multiple grants.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Teach at undergraduate level general physics service lab- based courses.
2. Teach laboratory sections of undergraduate physics courses.
3. Engage in various teaching and learning settings such as small to whole groups, tutorial, and lecture demonstration.
4. Provide a 36 hours of instructional hours per academic year.
5. Keep a dynamic presence on campus of about 35-40 hours per week.
6. Maintain an awareness of lab safety regulations.
7. Assist in research projects.
8.Oversee the whole process of learning and assessment which includes: preparing own teaching materials, conducting office hours, assigning student needs, supporting students with learning difficulties, grading and evaluating homework and lab reports, and designing and grading quizzes and exams.
9. Work actively and effectively in the process of lab improvement and general Physics curriculum enhancement.
10. Contribute effectively in departmental activities, such as meetings, seminars, workshops, standing and ad hoc committees work, symposia, open days, alumni events, exhibitions, student competitions, and any other formal and informal events.
11. Participate actively in promoting the integration of technology into the educational environment within the Department.
12. Stay current in academic discipline, and pedagogical advancement.
13. Pursue own continuing professional development through attending and participating in professional development sessions and training workshops offered throughout the academic year.
14. Be familiar and maintain conduct and actions consistent with QU policies and regulations.
