SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to provide mechanical support to assigned product lines and coordinate the development schedule of new products. This includes aiding in the design of new products, tooling and fixtures, as well as solving mechanical related problems on existing products.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. MSME desirable.

EXPERIENCE:2-4 years product and tool design work experience and 1 year of project management experience.

KNOWLEDGE:Understanding of Mechanical Design Principles, the ability to improve current design methods preferred, an understanding of drafting principles, dimensioning and tolerancing. Required technical knowledge includes product, tooling, and fixture design, working knowledge of material selection including metals and non-metals, technical knowledge of design software such as SolidWorks (minimum level 1) and AutoCad (14). Must have an understanding of component manufacturing techniques, such as transfer and injection molding, machining, etc.

SKILLS:The ability to use ASME Y14.5 and the Document Requirements Manual preferred.


INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

INTERNAL: Internal relationships to include daily communication with Program Managers, Design Engineers, Process Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, and lab personnel to discuss product design, tooling design, scheduling, etc. Weekly interaction to include Marketing and Program Management to discuss product requirements, schedules, and new designs. Frequent contact with Document Control to review drawing releases and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), etc; and production plants to discuss new and existing mechanical issues.

EXTERNAL:External relationships to include contact with suppliers to discuss materials, designs, schedules and cost.

CHALLENGES

This position is challenged to design a new product and the associated tooling within a short amount of time. This position must also interact with production plants in different time zones without the ability to see the product being discussed. This requires a great deal of flexibility. This position is challenged to be creative in a short period of time as product development cycles are shortened (as driven by the market). Errors in work could result in a 4-6 week retool, due to wrong material choices or errors in design.


SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES

  • Design, evaluate and test new products, including tooling and fixtures
  • Provide plant support on new and existing designs
  • Attend program, staff, company, design review, TS, ISO, and group meetings and actively participate in discussions.
  • Prepare documentation forms such as ECNs, AVLs, and Add-A-Component
  • Train, coach, and mentor more junior team engineers – act as a leader and mentor in developing knowledge of Pulse and the practices/procedures employed in the organization
  • Other duties as assigned.
