Summary

The School of Professional and Career Education seeks adjunct faculty to add to our roster of contract faculty for assignments on an as-needed basis. Adjunct faculty mostly teach face to face in an evening/weekend format and are responsible for collaborating with respective Academic Coordinators in the development and execution of the course. Furthermore, they work closely with Site Managers and Academic Advisors on curriculum, scheduling and student related issues. Additional responsibilities are outlined in the adjunct faculty handbook.

Adjunct faculty are employed on a term-by-by-term basis and there is not an expectation of ongoing employment or employee benefits commensurate for full time faculty status. The maximum teaching load for an adjunct faculty member is no more than two (2) courses per 7-week term.

Essential Functions

Adjunct faculty are responsible for all associated preparation for their class, assessment and evaluation and student consultation.

Adjunct Faculty:

  • must be available for student consultation prior to the start of the class where the course is taught and be available by phone or email;
  • function as the principal source of instruction and the faculty of record in the instructional setting for a class and will be responsible for preparation and delivery of course content in accordance with program outcomes; comprehensive assessment and grading in the assigned class;
  • are expected to participate in professional development (in person or remotely via adobe connect) at a minimum of one faculty meeting per year at the designated site;
  • must ensure that the amount of contact time and independent work time expected of students meet the minimum requirements established by the University. Class times vary, but are generally 4 hours each week in the evenings or on Saturdays.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master's degree in discipline required for undergraduate teaching.
  • Doctoral degree preferred for undergraduate teaching.
  • Doctoral degree required for teaching graduate level course
  • Prior college level teaching experience with the adult student population preferred.
  • Applied experience in the field highly valued.
