The Federal Development Resiliency Engineer provides engineering support to Federal Development teams in support of the subject matter expertise. The Federal Resiliency Development Engineer works with a regional engineering team to complete specific tasks on energy conservation, capital improvement, and infrastructure projects through multiple forms of procurement under ESPC IDIQ contracts and through UESCs. Examples of typical tasks given to the Development Engineers may include, but not limited to, utility bill analysis, initial sizing of power storage opportunities, assessment of sites resiliency needs, critical load identification/calculation, critical systems points of failure, whole building assessment for deep energy retrofit possibilities, auditing a facility, creating equipment inventories, coordinating work with contractors, energy calculations, developing scopes of work and assisting with the commissioning after installation.

Responsibilities

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assists in developing projects that solve customers’ problems, including performing energy savings calculations, operational savings calculations and determining the cost of implementation of the savings measures.
  • Core Competency in Direct Digital Control systems, optimizing control strategies, and knowledge of cyber security requirements within the Federal Market
  • Works with subcontractors and consultants to provide technical analysis and descriptions for project installation and to ensure the quality of work delivered exceeds the requirements of the job.
  • Works with the Measurement and Verification Team to determine the necessary measurements to ensure the energy and operational guarantees to the customer are met.
  • Must be capable of working in a team environment and being adequately self-directed.
  • Learns the foundational technical methods used to create Performance Contracting projects
  • Keeps abreast of current technologies by reading magazine articles, attending seminars and conferences and developing relationships with contractors and suppliers who are creative and provide technical excellence
  • Performs related work as required
  • Performs all duties as deemed necessary by management

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Core Competency in resiliency, Net Zero Energy design, Deep Energy Retrofits
  • Competency in any of the following considered :
    • Deep Energy Retrofits
    • Battery Energy Storage Systems
    • Microgrid design and construction
    • Cybersecurity

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited Engineering/Technology program or equivalent
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a construction or energy service related field or one (1) year interning with ESG
  • (PE) is favorable
  • Demonstrated Federal Market Experience (ESPC or UESC experience highly preferred)
  • Government IT system, SCADA system and Utility communication systems interrelation and integration
  • Knowledge of cyber security requirements within the Federal Market
  • Any of the following certifications:
    • CEM
    • CMVP
    • Any LEED Certification
    • NEBB
    • TAB
    • Any ASHRAE Certification
  • Understanding of at least one of the following:
    • DOE ESPC IDIQ contract language
    • USACE ESPC IDIQ contract language
    • UESC Enabling Documents
    • GSA Schedule 84
    • Enhanced Use lease
  • Subject matter expert in one or more of the following:
    • Building Automation and Controls
    • Cybersecurity
    • Battery Energy Storage System
    • Microgrids

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Adobe, E-Quest, DOE-II, AutoCAD, RIVET TRANE Trace, or Carrier HAP
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations
  • Ability to compose and write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information as required
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical and mechanical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Demonstrated ability to work a problem or task to conclusion, utilizing any resource available
  • Maturity and professionalism to effectively handle exposure to all levels of management at ESG, as well as interfacing with customers, clients and the public

  • 20% - 50% Frequent travel is required, including overnight travel and occasional weekend travel
