Description
As part of a major initiative to strengthen its research in marine science, the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE) Division in KAUST is seeking to expand research and innovations in the field of climate change and environmental adaptations. Applications for faculty positions (Assistant or Associate Professor) are invited from highly competitive candidates willing to pursue innovative research addressing fundamental questions and developing cutting–edge technology as applied to marine systems. Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in Marine Science, Biological Science, or related fields, as well as a strong publication record in the top-tier venues of their respective areas. The candidate will be expected to be affiliated with KAUST’s Red Sea Research Center. KAUST is particularly interested in applications from high-caliber individuals with expertise in physiology, biochemistry, ecosystem impacts of climate change, environmental stress, ecosystem modeling, pelagic systems, deep-sea biology, or other relevant topics. Preference will be given to candidates who can take advantage of KAUST’s unique access to the Red Sea, although it is not expected that this will be an exclusive focus. Few, if any, other universities offer the same combination of access to diverse tropical marine habitats and world-class laboratory facilities. The Red Sea may serve as a “natural laboratory” for climate change studies as its present-day conditions (with elevated temperature and salinity) mirror future conditions in other seas under anticipated climate change scenarios.

KAUST’s Red Sea Research Center offers a unique combination of an intellectually stimulating environment and access to world-class laboratories, instrumentation, and generous funding schemes. KAUST facilities include state-of-the-art core laboratories with specializations in bioscience (including genomics and proteomics), marine operations (including aquaria and a research vessel), analytical chemistry, advanced imaging, and others. Faculty positions come with an internationally competitive salary, benefits, and start-up packages.

Please enclose a cover letter; a copy of full curriculum vitae with complete list of publications; a research statement; a teaching statement; and a list of contact information for at least 4 academic referees.
