American University of Sharjah (AUS) seeks applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the School of Business Administration, which has been ranked #1 in the Arab world by US News and World Report.

Reporting to the Provost, the Dean leads a school of 74 faculty members, many of whom are recognized as leaders in their fields. The school currently enrolls 1,174 undergraduate and 75 graduate students. The school offers the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with majors in accounting, economics, finance, management, management information systems and marketing. The school also offers the Bachelor of Arts in Economics degree and eight minors. Graduate degrees include the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Science in Accounting. All degree programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division. The school is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate in business or a closely related field and a distinguished record of leadership, preferably in an institution based on the American higher education model. The record should include evidence of inspiring and supporting faculty, setting high academic and scholarly standards, supporting research, executing a strategic vision, managing budgets, building diversity, and building and sustaining external relations. The Dean will build on the strong reputation of the school as one of the best in the region and work with a committed faculty to help advance the university’s mission of educating lifelong learners who display mastery in their majors and who think critically, communicate clearly and solve problems creatively. The Dean will lead in strengthening all undergraduate and graduate programs.

AUS seeks an energetic and engaging leader who will represent the university and the School of Business Administration effectively in regional and global settings. AUS is an extraordinarily diverse university. Accordingly, the new leader for the school must have a well-developed competence in managing cross-cultural interactions and contribute to creating a spirit of common purpose and collegiality. We seek a Dean who will actively support collaboration across the university and with external stakeholders to establish mutually productive relationships that will benefit students, faculty, the school and the university as a whole.

Founded in 1997 by the Ruler of Sharjah, American University of Sharjah is a comprehensive, independent, non-profit coeducational university based on American models of higher education. AUS attracts highly motivated students from around the world with programs that maintain academic standards appropriate to and consistent with US universities. The university has achieved remarkable growth and academic distinction during its short history. The campus is a spectacular setting of imposing architecture and beautiful landscaping, and is located approximately 30 minutes from Dubai International Airport. Sharjah is known as a city of learning and culture, and the United Arab Emirates is a thriving and rapidly changing country of approximately nine million inhabitants from across the world.

There are four academic units in the university. In addition to the School of Business Administration, the university includes the College of Arts and Sciences; the College of Architecture, Art and Design; and the College of Engineering. All classes are taught in English, and although most faculty members are educated in the West, the atmosphere is vibrantly international. The institution has topped the Times Higher Education (THE) list of universities with the highest percentage of international students globally for two consecutive years, with more than 90 nationalities represented in the student body. It enrolls more than 5,000 students in 27 undergraduate and 14 graduate degree programs, and employs 360 full-time faculty members and 510 staff. The student-faculty ratio is approximately 12.4 to 1. A fundamental goal in all programs is the integration of a liberal arts core with focused professional and pre-professional studies. From its founding, excellence in the instructional program has been a hallmark of the university.

AUS is licensed and its programs are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the UAE Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division. AUS has been accredited in the United States of America by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, USA, Tel +1 215 662 5606) since June 2004. The bachelor of science degree programs in chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering and mechanical engineering offered by the College of Engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (http://www.abet.org/). The bachelor of science degree program in computer science offered by the College of Engineering is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET (http://www.abet.org/). The Bachelor of Architecture program of the College of Architecture, Art and Design is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) of the United States.
