The Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering has a faculty complement of 38 professors active in the various areas of building, civil and environmental engineering and its strength has rapidly been growing in recent years. The department offers PhD, masters and bachelor degrees in Building Engineering, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. The Civil Engineering undergraduate program was recently ranked among the top 20 civil engineering programs in the world. The Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks an outstanding candidate for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position with expertise in one or more of the following areas: theoretical aspects of the Finite Element Method (FEM), continuum mechanics, application of linear and nonlinear FEM analyses in structural mechanics, algorithm development and programming for FEM, large scale FEM simulation of structural behaviour, multi-scale and multi-physics FEM modelling, and other related numerical methods such as Boundary Element Method (BEM), Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Finite Difference Method (FDM). The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, but exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level may also be considered.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Structural Engineering, or Civil Engineering, or related disciplines and are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to supervision of MASc and PhD students, and to excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. They will conduct independent scholarly research, attract strong external funding and demonstrate industrial application of their research activities. Excellent communication skills are required. The language of instruction at Concordia University is English; however, knowledge of French is an asset. Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association, preferably in the province of Quebec, is essential.
