About The American University in Cairo:

Job Description:
In addition to providing the essential foundation for all Sciences and Engineering programs, and electives to the University-wide community, the Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science (MACT) provides rigorous pedagogy to Mathematics majors, as well as its applied Actuarial Science and newly launched Data Science program. The latter established in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and being the first of its kind in Egypt and the MENA region. In that context, MACT welcomes applicants that are well-grounded in Mathematics and its diverse applications, with the flexibility to participate in the curriculum across various sub-disciplines, from freshmen to graduate.
For all positions, applicants should be committed to excellent classroom teaching and learning as well as demonstrating a strong research record (senior faculty) or a clear potential for research (junior faculty). Preference will be given to applicants who will contribute to the Department, School, University, and the outside communities in the field. English is required as it is the language of instruction at AUC. Research opportunities within the School of Sciences and Engineering and with colleagues across AUC are strongly encouraged.

Requirements:

Two Faculty Positions in Statistics
Applicants should hold a PhD in Statistics, Data Science or a related field. Successful applicants are expected to teach courses in Applied Statistics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants are also expected to engage in scholarly research, external grant funding and applied consulting project-based work. Participation in service activities within the department and university is also an expectation. In addition, applicants should be proficient in one or more statistical analysis package such as SAS, R, Python, or other similar programming languages; and have strong communication skills with a diverse audience of academics and practitioners. Experience in Big Data Analytics and informatics would be a plus.

Two Faculty Positions in Actuarial Science
Applicants should hold a PhD in Actuarial Science or a related field. Additional preferred qualifications include holding a Fellow designation by an Actuarial Society such as the American Society of Actuaries, the United Kingdom Faculty/Institute of Actuaries, or the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. Candidates with 5 or more years of experience in actuarial science, in either an academic or corporate environment, with demonstrated capacity for high-quality scholarship are encouraged to apply. Service related to our Actuarial Science major may include advising students and student organizations, developing curricula, and outreach to the local community.
