Overview:

The Business Development Engineer (BDE) has an external focus whose key objective relates to new business pursuit and capture opportunities for non-OEM, aftermarket opportunities, with a focus on Aftermarket growth.

The BDE has a broad range of knowledge combined with in-depth expertise on a specific technology (hydraulics, mechanical or electronics), enabling the incumbent to discuss the application of a wide range of technologies, products and potentially systems. The BDE will demonstrate a passion for the aftermarket customer and the market, having the ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the market place for the designated product line.

Responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with Business Unit Managers to identify technical points of contact at customer and identify markets and opportunities for new Sustaining Engineering programs.
  2. Development of working relationships with customer’s technical staff involved in non-OEM R&O, product upgrades, obsolescence management and reverse engineering decisions and program execution.
  3. Working an effective Business Pursuit process, including but not limited to:
    1. Opportunity planning
    2. Opportunity identification and pursuit
    3. Gated process review
    4. Technical liaison with the customer
    5. Business Case supporting Bid/No bid decision
    6. Pre-RFP Planning
  4. Serve as technical lead for proposal efforts:
    1. Proposal content
    2. Support estimates of recurring and non-recurring costs.
    3. Statement of Work
    4. Key program milestones
  5. Function as program technical lead after contract award and up to the point of production transition:
    1. Lead product development efforts
    2. Support Test Equipment Development
    3. Approve A&T processes / documentation
    4. Assist Supply Chain with Parts Sourcing decisiopns
  6. Maintain a status on Competitors products, services, technology and strategy related to the aftermarket customer
  7. Participate in the management and resolution of major issues affecting the relationship with the customer.
  8. Co-ordinate with Group Engineering management to forecast and assign resources in the support of new business opportunities. Forecast resource requirements to support the future needs of the product line.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  2. US national with ability to work on classified programs.
  3. Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in the field of engineering/operations/business development.
  4. Proven leadership capabilities and ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the market place for the designated product line.
  5. Customer focus and proven ability to interface with customer’s technical procurement and program staff.
  6. Excellent technical/engineering knowledge with depth in mechanical controls or electronics.
  7. Strong human relationship skills are required in developing effective working relationships both externally and internally.
  8. The position requires travel, up to 50% of time over any given month.
