Summary

Barry University, department is currently seeking an Associate Dean of Graduate Programs & Associate Professor/Professor of Business. The primary purpose of this position is to advise the Dean on strategic planning and on academic matters, manage the overall administration of the Andreas School of Business (ASB) Graduate Academic Affairs, which includes academic issues involving students, curricula, accreditation, and administrative matters. May participate in the management of international relationships and assists in managing local community relationships. Represents ASB at various functions. The position manages all graduate accreditation issues with the Dean, serves as the primary interface with all other university units on academic issues and processes, and serves as a faculty member in ASB and with the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

Essential Functions

Advises the Dean on significant School issues pertaining to:

  • Accreditation issues, both AACSB and SACS;
  • Managing business partners including online program managers
  • Curricular matters;
  • Strategic Planning, including the contributing of ideas and viewpoints on the plan and the implementation of the action items that pertain to the Assistant Dean’s area; and
  • Students.
  • International and community relations
  • Enrollment and Admissions planning

Manages ASB Graduate Academic Affairs as it pertains to issues involving students by:

  • Having delegated authority from the Dean to make decisions on all Graduate academic issues as designated by the Dean and serving as the first point of contact for all graduate student grade appeals and other disciplinary issues;
  • Rendering admission decisions (consulting with faculty Graduate Program Directors and Director of Graduated Admissions when needed);
  • Managing services that address the academic needs, issues, and concerns of graduate students including letter to governmental sponsors;
  • Advising and registering graduate students and being available to them for all types of consultations;
  • Determining all graduate students’ academic status and other issues concerning admission, retention, dismissal, suspension and transient student status and ensuring timely completion and communication;
  • Managing orientation sessions for graduate students, including the training on the curriculum for new students;
  • Responding to all student grievances or faculty/student issues concerning grades or discipline;
  • Auditing files of potential graduating graduate students to determine if requirements have been met, recommending students for graduation and approving the awarding of degrees and ensuring the timely graduation of students;
  • Evaluating transcript evaluations to determine applicability to ASB programs for all prospective students, including prospective athletes, and for all change of major/program requests;
  • Serving as Scholarship Coordinator for graduate scholarship awards.

Manages ASB graduate Academic Affairs as it pertains to curricular matters by:

  • Collaborating with Dean and Faculty on graduate curricula issues;
  • Manages the development and launch of graduate programs
  • Participates in program review and evaluation;
  • Collaborating with faculty Graduate Assurance of Learning Committee, encouraging progress on all assurance of learning issues, and maintaining documentation on the entire assurance of learning process;
  • Serving as administration representative on the Graduate Council;
  • Recommending academic policy and procedural changes to the Dean;
  • Supervising the maintenance of academic statistics for ASB, analyzing data, preparing reports with administrative assistance and making recommendations to the Dean;
  • Collaborating in the creation of the graduate course schedules by determining the courses to be offered and the time/day for courses with the Dean;
  • Chairing/Serving on ASB and University committees as designated by Dean;
  • Managing all graduate end-of-degree surveys and the yearly advising survey with administrative assistance and reporting results to the Dean;
  • Performing other duties and assuming other responsibilities as requested by the Dean and the mission requirements of ASB.

Manages the School’s accreditation issues (AACSB, SACS) with the Dean by:

  • Collaborating with Faculty on Assurance of Leaning and Major Learning Outcome assessment and other accreditation related issues;
  • Assisting the Dean in the completion of reports and forms required by accrediting agencies.

Works with key internal constituencies on academic issues and procedures by:

  • Coordinating with the Registrar on catalog updates and with Enrollment Services on the transferability of credits and all other recruitment efforts (Open Houses, Orientations, etc.)
  • Liaise with ASB Director of Graduate Admissions, ASB Marketing Coordinator and ASB staff;
  • Serving as the ASB administration representative on Barry Graduate Council.
  • Maintains an active research program that meets AACSB faculty qualification standards.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree in Business or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of related experience.
  • Requires the ability to analyze complex data, spreadsheets, student information.
  • Requires high accuracy of project management and efficiency.
  • Requires high/advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Requires high oral and written communication skills to be able to interact with both internal and external constituents.
